Wow isn't this an exciting time to be us! We live in a world of amazing opportunity and resources. Sometimes I feel it's too easy to get caught up in the "news" of bad news. Wars, famine, disease, massive natural disasters. Geez, it's almost enough to make one religious and likely it is fuel for a lot of Sunday sermons.
But I say, let's look at the bright side. After all, is that not what The Secret would tell us to do. Focus on what it is we want rather than don't want? So, I want to focus on the fact that an African American woman from Chicago's south side worked hard and (in her own words) listened to her parents and got herself into law school where she met an amazing man and thus became the first black First Lady. Of course, I am speaking of Michelle Obama. I have not met this lady yet, but I sure do want to know as much about her as I can.
For two reasons. One for my own personal inspiration and two for my daughter. In the latest blog from the Whitehouse, Michelle Obama's message to a group of young children at Mary's Center for Maternal and Child Care a Washington, D.C. nonprofit that provides a range of social services, she says: "No matter what you do, you can't pass a law that makes somebody do the right thing, right?"
Apparently this was the message she got from her parents raising their children on the south side of Chicago. So, for me the right thing is to pass on what I know about holistic physical and spiritual and community health and parenting, honoring the planet, and honoring myself. I am sometimes overwhelmed with anxiety because my innermost thoughts are "who am I to write about this?" But even more profoundly, who am I not to. I feel compelled to make a difference, to support companies who are trying to make a difference, and to support those mothers who follow their instincts and their drives to make their contribution in making the world a better place for all our children.
The time is now. Let's do the right thing. Thanks Mrs Obama. I look forward to your leadership. And to your husband's as well. Of course.

What an inspiring way to start my day. Thank you for this. A thought popped into my head this morning and maybe this is a good place to give it voice. In the gym changing room, a numbe of women were talking about capitalizing on the Olympics by renting their homes out for $20,000/month and leaving town during that time. WHAT IF our family didn't do that? WHAT IF our family invited a complete stranger(s) from another country to stay with us while he/she enjoyed the Olympics? WHAT IF we learned from them about their country and city, customs and culture? WHAT IF we shared with them all that was beautiful about Vancouver and Vancouverites? WHAT IF we took advantage of a wonderful opportunity to host the world and we did just that...act as gracious hosts? Just my 2 cents.
What a great idea. I think it would be ok to ask for something in exchange for their visit but I too have said no to giving up my home just to make money. My home is my sanctuary and it's simply priceless to be shared from the heart.
